Author Bio

K-R (Kelly-Robyn) currently lives in a charming neighbourhood in Saskatoon, near a tree-filled park. She loves watching the leaves turning to gold and fire as summer becomes fall, while she is walking her dog every morning.

Ever since she was a child living in Flin Flon, she has always loved watching each season paint the world anew. From those early days, her imagination grew as she walked to and from school with her friends, sharing stories and adventures along the way that occasionally caused them to run late.

Storytelling was encouraged at bedtime by her Dad and Nana. K-R’s dad would often tell her stories of family adventures getting chased by dinosaurs and being lost in the hidden world of a volcano. The stories would never get finished and often continued a later night. Trying to fall asleep while telling yourself the rest of the story is a difficult task. Other childhood bedtimes included Nana reading The Tale of Custard the Dragon by Ogden Nash – in the most boring tone possible – with the intent of putting her granddaughter to sleep. But who can sleep when a pirate has a “Pistol in his left hand, pistol in his right, And he held in his teeth a cutlass bright.” Nana also told stories of two little squirrel cousins, who had adventures in the forest around Candle Lake.

The first written story K-R finished a draft of was a short story based on an actual incident when a little squirrel, determined to get a cookie, climbed up her Nana. From there, the world of Casey the squirrel turned into a full-length young reader novel and is now in the process of finding its way into reader’s hands.
